Lumignano, a historic climbing crag in the province of Vicenza, celebrates its 100th anniversary. The first route opened on the walls of the Colli Berici dates back to 1924. Over the course of a century, the world of climbing has undergone significant changes, both in the number of enthusiasts and in the ways of tackling rock walls, especially cliffs.
Throughout the decades and with the involvement of numerous pioneers and climbers, Lumignano has managed to evolve, sometimes giving rise to ethical currents, sometimes to philosophical inspirations, and at times to major events. It is, therefore, a crag that has traversed history but, one can certainly assert, has also “marked the history” of an activity that, in recent years, has been experiencing a new boom.
During spring, autumn, and winter weekends (although there is also activity in the summer months), the various sectors of Lumignano are filled with both young and experienced climbers, all seeking to achieve top performances on some of Italy’s most beautiful routes and to personally overcome their own climbing levels.
With this publication, the author and publisher aim to showcase the beauty of this place, characterized by limestone of multiple colors, caves, slabs, and cracks that allow the development of the magnificent game of climbing. The goal is to contribute to the well-being of Lumignano and the many climbers who navigate its holds.
May the first century of this marvelous corner of the world open the doors to a future of fun and satisfaction that only climbing can provide.
